VoIP Vs IP Telephony?

Is there a difference between VoIP and IP Telephony? Technically speaking YES.

Although VoIP and IP Telephony are commonly used with other similar terms, technically speaking there is a difference. Briefly here are what differentiate them

  • IP Telephony is when you make an on-site call within your LAN (local area network). For instance, at home or work when calling to a co-coworkers or manager.
  • VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is when you make a call to an off-site location or WAN (Wide Are Network). For instance, when you call to your family, friend, co-worker at branch office in same or different city. Or even  across the continent.
